Yesterday – January 20 – the first monthly rehabilitation courses for blind and visually impaired people under the project “See and hear with the heart” started this year at the Rehabilitation Centre of the National Islamic Charitable Foundation “Yardem”.
The courses on the See and Hear by Heart project are held with the support of PJSC “LUKOIL” and subsidies from the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Tatarstan and at the expense of “Yardem” National Islamic Charitable Foundation.
This is the largest project that is aimed at helping the blind and visually impaired. The project “See and hear with your heart” is being implemented in the Republic of Tatarstan in the city of Kazan, but people with disabilities, in particular blind and hard of hearing, come to rehabilitation and training at a rehabilitation center from different parts of Russia. The geography of the project is very wide; during the implementation of the project, the blind and visually impaired from more than 40 regions of the Russian Federation were trained. The monthly rehabilitation courses, which end on February 19, were attended by rehabilitants from the regions of the Russian Federation - from Rostov, Orenburg, Ulyanovsk, Omsk regions, Perm Territory, Stavropol Territory, the Republic of Bashkortostan, Mari El, Karachay-Cherkessia, Dagestan, from the cities of Moscow, Yekaterinburg , Samara, as well as from cities and regions of the Republic of Tatarstan – totally 50 people.
The head of the project, vice-president of the foundation, director of the Rehabilitation Center at the NICF “Yardem” Malika khanum Gelmutdinova took part in the solemn meeting dedicated to the start of the courses. “We are very pleased with your positive feedback, a sincere desire to undergo rehabilitation at our center, an interest in gaining knowledge, a desire to become more independent, active, confident in yourself, increase self-esteem, believe in your own strength, expand your circle of friends, find true friends, improve the quality of your life. I want to express the hope that together we will successfully cope with the tasks. Our experienced teachers and educators will always be with you and create comfortable conditions for living and studying. They will do everything possible to successfully attend our courses.” – said Malika Khanum.
The goal of the project is to improve the quality of life of visually impaired people by implementing an integrated approach for their educational, psychological and medical rehabilitation, socialization in society. One of the objectives of the project is to attract public attention to the problem of persons with disabilities.
To achieve the goal, the following types of rehabilitation are used: medical, which includes massage, physiotherapy and other types of health measures, household - help in the development of new skills and skills in everyday life, psychological - various developmental classes are conducted, sociocultural - visits to excursions, theaters, concerts and other leisure activities. In addition, Foundation wards receive social and legal support aimed at assisting in obtaining free legal services, informing about their rights as recipients of social services and protecting legitimate interests.
Speaking at a meeting today, rehabilitants noted that they had heard about “Yardem” for a long time, came to learn new things: someone learned about “Yardem” from friends, someone from the media, via the Internet, and someone in the society of the blind. “I want to hug you with a kind word,” they say. The blind and visually impaired came here to learn to read the Koran in Braille, learn the basics of Islam, Arabic, Braille itself, learn how to use a computer, get acquainted with literature in Braille. Those rehabilitants who are undergoing rehab more than once, noted that they are here like a phoenix, reborn. Some could not hold their tears and thanked the director of the Rehabilitation Center Malika Rafkatovna, as a mentor - the first teacher. Rehabilitants also noted that here the rehabilitation and training program is constantly updated and improved.
Practice shows that the courses are very popular among blind and visually impaired people, because here you can get not only social and rehabilitation services, but also spiritual and moral support, this is the uniqueness of this project.
Most people with disabilities who underwent rehabilitation at the Center say that they have improved that can be compared to rebooting, they are rethinking their lives, believing in their own abilities, accepting themselves for who they are, someone finds the ability to create and craft something , write poetry, there are frequent cases when strong friendships are struck between the cadets. Fixing a positive attitude for the long term provides multiple rehabilitation and most of the rehabilitants express a desire to visit the rehabilitation center of the “Yardem” Foundation again and again.
